I.B.M

I.B.M.

IBM has always had a love for music and featured in a school band when he was just 10. His love for the scene started when his older friends copied their mix tape packs for him and it was not long before he wanted to be blending the music like the DJs he was listening to. He got his first pair of decks when he was 12 years old and started to learn the craft of mixing, buying what vinyl he could with pocket money.

In the early days it was the amen breaks and rave pianos that he loved and when he was 15 you may have seen him sporting white gloves with glow sticks at raves such as Slammin Vinyl, Dreamscape and World Dance!! He raved to both hardcore and drum and bass but due to a limited budget mainly bought hardcore, buying only the big or classic drum and bass tunes. However, as the hardcore scene became more cheesy he lost interest in the music and focused purely on drum and bass.

In 1999 he started making his own tracks on Music 2000 on the Playstation but was frustrated by the limitations of the software so in 2001 he bought a PC with a copy of Reason. Since then he has spent many an hour trawling through The Grid on the Dogs on Acid website looking for the production tricks that give music its polished sound. Over this time he has slowly built up a home studio and in 2006 did a music technology course, the result being a big improvement in the sounds he was creating.

In 2001 he met S1 who showed him a different side to the scene and introduced him to new nights, at smaller venues, which were more liquid focused and uplifting. Since then he has lent towards this side of the scene but believes there is always a time and a place for the darkness and you will find tunes by the likes of Limewax in his record bag!

He is currently working on solo projects as well as collaborations with S1 and his main priority is producing. With the current difficulties with online piracy, he does not give out any of his tunes for fear of jeopardising being signed by a label. As a result, expect to hear some tunes at Different Drumz that have not been heard before.

IBM, S1 & Wooks Present 'Mellow Mondays' Live on Different Drumz with studio cam every week from 8pm! Make sure to check them out!
